RE: 08 onan gold 5500 - shutting down

I would put the wiring back to originaldoing this puts two air conditioners on a single 25 amp circuit. this just isnt enough to run one and start another. it will trip every time.

RE: 08 vacation pics

What did you do with him while you were away from the trailer?he stayed in the camper with my two other dogs. we walked them before we left for disney for the day and they were sure ready to go out when we got back, but had no problems from them in the camper. last year on the same trip the shepherd was only 6 months old and he ate the carpet in the master bedroom, but hes outgrown that now.

RE: 08 onan gold 5500 - shutting down

hello,
yes both units run fine on the generator up to around 100 degrees. over 100 degrees they run for 20 minutes or so and then the generator shuts down. i havent yet tried it when the camper is parked because so far ive had shore power when parked. this has just been while travelling.
where do i find the fault code?

08 onan gold 5500 - shutting down

2008 raptor 3612 equipped with an onan gold 5500 generator
initially the 15,000 btu air conditioner that came with the camper did fine until the temperature got above 95 degrees. to combat the issue i added an additional 13,500 btu air conditioner over the master bedroom. plugged into shore power this cools the camper now in any temperature (at least up to 115 degrees outside which is the hottest we've been in since adding the additional air conditioner).
trying to run both on the generator however resulted in tripping the breaker on the generator. to prevent this i rearranged the wiring in my fuse box so that the second air conditioner now pulls off the other leg on the generator.
now what i have works well except for when running both air conditioners off the generator when its above 100 degrees outside. while travelling back to montana from disney land we travelled through the desert in california, nevada, and arizona. the wifey rode in the camper with the dogs and kept complaining that the generator would run for 20 minutes or so and then turn itself off. after a few minutes the wifey would recrank the generator and all would be just fine for another 20 minutes or so.
i can only assume this is due to the heat but this is just not acceptable. we plan to boondock this summer and will leave the dogs in the camper while we are away. if the generator cut off like that the dogs would suffer and this isnt acceptable. what do i need to do in order to dependably run both air conditioners off my generator in desert heat?
thanks,

disney land is hot, expensive, and very crowded yet none of that matters when you see your daughters face light up. despite all the money spent on the newer rides (toy story, indiana jones, etc.) the classic rides (space mountain, splash mountain) are still the best.

overall i must admit to being somewhat disappointed in the museum. as a tribute to one of the greatest men in history i would have expected a dedicated building/museum. instead, the browning museum is basically one room inside of a railroad museum. i would also like to see them remove the non-browning firearms displayed as they have nothing to do with a tribute to john browning....perhaps i miss the point in the museum....i just feel they could have done a better job celebrating the legacy that john browning created. is the company hurting financially?
the only downside to vacation is that when its over you know you have another year to face before you can do it again.

hello from orangeland

for our 2008 vacation we decided to come back to southern california to enjoy orangeland, disneyland, and a few other stops along the way. while there are many pictures and details yet to come, here are a few pictures.

RE: raptor 3612 - thermostat placement issue

Move the thermostat!that would certainly be the obvious fix, but them im left with a huge hole in my wall where the thermostat was orignally placed. at this point ill probably end up having to replace the thermostat with a an electronic thermostat with wireless remote sensor capabilities.

RE: raptor 3612 quality control issues

i realize they are assembly line built but this to me does not excuse poor build quality. they prewire the unit for a/c, and then position the antenna so that it cant close in the mount properly if you ad an a/c? they build the framework in the proper size to accomodate an a/c installation, and then put the duct from the primary a/c close enough to interfere with the a/c installation? i really have trouble finding this to be acceptable, but i dont know what can be done about it at this point other than living with it.

raptor 3612 - thermostat placement issue

http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/8587/66177407cs5.jpg
i just mounted the secondary air conditioner in the master bedroom. trouble is, the primary air conditioner thermostat is directly in the discharge path of the secondary air conditioner. this will lead to the secondary air conditioner satisfying the thermostat of the primary air conditioner prematurely causing the camper (from the master bedroom back) to be to hot. even directing the air flow away from the thermostat makes very little difference. any suggestions?
thanks,

raptor 3612 quality control issues

in preparing for our 2008 vacation (going back to orangeland, disney land, and universal studios) i decided to add the second air conditioner above the master bedroom. in the process of the installation ive discovered several issues that concern me about the overall quality control that went into (or didnt go into) building my 2008 raptor 3612.
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1949/outletun0.jpg
my first issue is the free-hand cut for the a/c junction box. there is nothing to mount the box to and it just flops around. ill most likely replace this eventually with a post-wire box. i never noticed it before because i never removed the cover at the junction box before. it makes me wonder what other short-cuts exist that i havent seen because they are covered. i would love to be able to inspect all the frame welds.
http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/595/88724150qu1.jpg
my second issue is with the tv antenna. as you can see the mount is screwed into the roof with no way of rotating the mount.
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/228/58652531sc9.jpg
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9536/15411781in2.jpg
...which would be fine if it didnt point towards the secondary air conditioner. surely keystone knows an air conditioner goes there, they prewire the unit for the installation afterall. the next rotation notch causes the antenna bar to hit the mount guides, and the second notch causes it to lay almost flat but against the dome over the shower. there is no excuse for this.
http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/5734/97711536fg3.jpg
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/3051/59576114nh8.jpg
my third issue is with the primary air conditioner duct placement. as you can see here, its so close to the secondary air conditioner that the cover hits causing a gap between the roof and the secondary air conditioner cover.
at this point i could modify a few things to make these things work, but i spent more on this camper than i spent on my first house and i shouldnt have to modify components so they play nicely together like they were supposed to do to begin with.
....or are my expectations unrealistic?
thanks,

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/8148/coveraw9.jpg
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/1949/outletun0.jpg
found it! the outlet box is inside of the camper and requires fishing a wire only a couple feet. i was expecting it to be in the opening.
btw, shame on keystone for the poor quality control. the hole for the box is cut free hand, and it isnt attached to anything. it just flops around. ill have to secure it just to feel better about it.

RE: raptor 3612 a/c install help

argh...arent all raptors prewired?? if its not there, what options do i have? how difficult is it to fish a wire in a raptor? id be very tempted to splice into the wire to the outlets if it will pull the load.

raptor 3612 a/c install help

http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/1795/acvg9.jpg
in installing an a/c over the master bedroom in my '08 raptor 3612. it is my understanding that all raptors come prewired for the a/c, but all i can find is one 14/2 with ground that appears to run to outlets elsewhere. ive pulled both directions and it appears to be solid. what am i missing?

since both are quality products, more important that the product is the installer. rhino is awful quick to distance themselves from any screw-ups on the part of the installer. CLICK HERE to see what they did to my truck.

RE: onan 5500 "gold" - oil change

thanks for all the replies. im going to get the onan filter and use mobil 1 oil. im hearing several different recommendations however, about the weight to use. the owners manual says one thing, and two different mechanics tell me to use two different weights if using synthetic. whats the recommended weight synthetic to use in this machine assuming a temperature range of 40 degrees to 110?

RE: approaching the limits

WHy did you go frm a DRW to a SRW....living in montana i drive in a lot of snow/ice. (particularly unloaded) duallys perform very poorly in snow/ice because the back tires dont ride in the ruts leaving them slipping/sliding.
